 RAL, the German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labelling was convinced by the advantages of the Oiltainer System ® and ranks the Oiltainer among those products which are deemed the most eco-friendly of their type. Since1998, the Oiltainer System ® has been allowed to carry the environmental label "Mehrweg-Transportverpackung" (re-usable transportation packaging).
The name "blue angel" comes from the figure standing in the centre of a circle and holding a laurel wreath in outstretched arms. It is the oldest environmental symbol of all, agreed upon in 1977, on the initiative of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Environment Ministers of the individual German states. One year later, the jury convened for the first time and now the symbol adorns 3,700 products.
